Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency cheval mirror is a full-length, free-standing floor mirror suspended between two upright posts, allowing the glass frame to tilt. Developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these pieces feature neoclassical proportions, turned finials, and splayed legs on brass castors.

These mirrors were predominantly constructed using solid and veneered mahogany, flame mahogany, or rosewood over a timber core framework. The mirror plate originally featured mercury silvering, held in place with timber backing boards and adjustable brass side knobs.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut joinery, solid backing boards showing natural wood shrinkage, and period brass fittings such as castors and side tension bolts. The mirror glass may exhibit subtle foxing or de-silvering consistent with age, alongside turned details such as acorn or urn finials.

Position the mirror in a bedroom, dressing area, or hallway to add visual depth and reflect light. Combining rich mahogany timber tones with light walls and modern textiles creates a balanced contrast between historic furniture and contemporary decor.

Dust the mahogany framework regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain twice a year. Avoid chemical glass cleaners on antique mirror plates to prevent moisture from seeping behind the frame and damaging original backings or silvering.
