A striking French oromolu circular mirrored plateau of highly decorative form

The round bevelled mirror plate is set within an ornate Rococo-style frame, richly decorated with scrolling acanthus, shell motifs and foliate flourishes

Circa 1880 - so well cast, heavy and solid and intricately detailed

Bought from a dealer on Marche Biron at the Paris antiques markets

The pierced apron is particularly elaborate, featuring bold C-scrolls and stylised

foliage, interspersed with raised cartouche panels and classical mask motifs that lend the piece a theatrical presence

Raised on integrated scrolling feet, the platform has a strong sculptural quality, the warm gilt finish enhancing the depth and detail of the carving. Light foxing to the mirror plate adds character and a pleasing sense of age

A superb statement piece ideal as a centrepiece on a dining table or console, perfect for displaying a candelabra, porcelain or floral arrangement while reflecting light beautifully throughout the room.
