Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Albert watch chain is a specialized chain designed during the nineteenth century to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat, named after Prince Albert who popularized the style. It typically features a swivel clasp at one end for the watch, a T-bar inserted into a buttonhole, and occasionally a secondary drop chain for a fob or key.

Victorian watch chains were made from solid gold, silver, rolled gold, and brass alloys like pinchbeck. Rolled gold involved bonding a thin layer of gold onto a base metal core, offering the lustre of solid gold with increased durability for daily wear.

Authentic period chains frequently feature distinct makers marks, purity hallmarks on individual links, or characteristic mechanical fastenings such as dog-nose swivels and T-bars. Wear patterns on rolled gold items typically reveal the underlying base metal along high-friction contact points.

Antique watch chains can be styled in a modern home by displaying them mounted inside shadow-box frames, arranged on velvet trays within glass cloches, or hung from decorative brass hooks on a dressing table. Their intricate links and warm metallic tones add historical texture to curated vignette displays.

Rolled gold should be cleaned gently using a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap, avoiding abrasive chemical polishes that can wear away the thin gold layer. Store the piece flat in a dry, fabric-lined box to prevent scratching and oxidisation.
