Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mahogany leather elbow desk chair typically features a solid timber frame with curved armrests, cabriole or turned legs, and leather upholstery secured with decorative brass studs. Popular throughout the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras, these chairs were designed for comfort during long working hours in private studies and libraries.

Historically, high-quality library chairs were constructed from dense hardwoods like solid mahogany or oak. The upholstery utilised full-grain hides, padded with natural materials such as horsehair, coconut fibre, or cotton felt, and detailed with hand-tacked brass upholstery studs.

Authentic pieces usually display traditional joinery techniques, such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural wear patterns on the timber frame, and genuine patination on the leather upholstery. The underside of the frame often reveals hand-sawn timber elements and aged webbing.

An antique leather elbow chair functions effectively as a focal point at a modern writing desk or as a standalone reading chair in a study. Combining aged leather and rich mahogany with contemporary minimalist lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Leather upholstery requires periodic application of a specialized leather conditioner to maintain flexibility and prevent drying or cracking. The mahogany frame should be dusted regularly and dressed with a natural beeswax polish while avoiding direct sunlight and strong heat sources.
