Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the mid-seventeenth century, the gueridon evolved from a simple tall stand used to support candelabra into a highly functional decorative table. By the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, French craftsmen frequently produced these elevated stands with marble tops and pierced brass galleries to hold botanical displays or tea service items.

Traditional French pedestals from this era typically feature dense timber frames such as mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood. The tops were frequently set with imported white or grey-veined marble, bounded by cast or pierced brass rim galleries to secure placed objects, and assembled using mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic pieces generally display solid or thick-veneered mahogany construction, hand-fitted marble insets that rest securely within a wooden recess, and patinated brass galleries. Looking beneath the table tier often reveals hand-cut joinery, irregular screw threads on brass fittings, and signs of natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

A tall, slender pedestal functions effectively in compact spaces, such as a narrow hallway alcove or beside a window. It can be styled with trailing indoor foliage, a singular ceramic vase, or a small bronze sculpture to introduce vertical height and contrasting natural materials into a contemporary room scheme.

Clean the mahogany timber with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the grain. Marble surfaces should be wiped promptly if liquid spills occur to prevent etching from acidic substances, while the brass gallery should be dusted gently without abrasive polishes to preserve its aged patina.
