Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, silversmiths produced a wide variety of small novelty desk items, including bookmarks shaped like trowels, daggers, and leaves. These pieces gained popularity as functional accessories and sentimental gifts among the literate middle and upper classes.

Victorian page markers were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, often featuring detailed repousse, chased motifs, or engraved ornamentation. Handles were sometimes carved from mother-of-pearl, bone, or ivory, though solid silver examples were also frequently produced.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, an assay office symbol (such as an anchor for Birmingham), and a specific date letter representing the year of production.

Small antique silver desk accessories can be displayed atop stacked hardback books on an office desk, styled within a glass specimen cabinet, or positioned on a bedside table alongside contemporary literature.

To prevent tarnish, clean the metal gently using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth. Avoid dipping non-flat objects into liquid chemical polishes, as these can strip oxidisation from low-relief areas that give carved details visual depth.
