Incredible very early 19th century French gilt mirror in superb original condition.
It has its absolutely stunning real gilt (gold leaf) frame with a huge, deep ornate crest and two side scrolls.
It has its beautiful original mercury glass. Mercury glass was not made after 1840 so the mirror definitely precedes this date. It gives a magnificent sparkle in sunlight and was the glass used in the Palace of Versailles.
It has all its original backboards.
It would have been used as an overmantel in a grand, high ceilinged room but would look equally good as a freestanding leaner mirror as in the photo or hanging on a large wall.
