Lincoln Restorations has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
An outstanding Victorian Mahogany Davenport
The exterior mahogany has an idyllic, lightly faded colour and a glazed French polished finish that has been carefully revived in our workshop to a deep, glass-like luster. It carries a mellowed, authentic patina that only develops with over 150 years of careful preservation, highlighting the quality of the timber selected for its construction.

The caliber of this desk is revealed through its rare, comprehensive use of yew wood. Lifting the gallery lid at the rear exposes a beautifully fitted stationery compartment, entirely lined in yew wood and organised with elegant divisions. This luxury continues under the main writing surface, where the main interior is also fully fitted in yew. Here, you'll find six small drawers—each crafted from vibrant, pale yew wood with their original bone pulls—alongside finely shaped pigeonholes for stationery.

The drawers in this piece are feature exceptionally fine, hand-cut dovetails throughout that display the skill of the cabinet maker, the drawers are very clean inside, glide effortlessly and have no wear present.

In our workshop, we have ensured the desk is as functional as it is beautiful. The writing surface has been replaced with a fresh, hand-tooled red full grain desk leather, and every original lever lock is in perfect working order with its original keys and lovely turned mahogany keyhole escutcheons to front. The main compartment is deep enough to securely lock away a modern laptop or tablet, offering 21st-century security within a classic Victorian form. The desk sits on its original concealed castors in the turned bun feet, the desk glides easily despite its solid construction and larger proportions for a Davenport.

Modern Versatility
While historically a piece for correspondence, this desk is incredibly useful in a modern environment. Its compact proportions make it a perfect small desk for typing or using a laptop , with the added practical bonus of being able to store your device inside and lock it securely away when not in use.
