The cabinet was designed to house, display and protect a collection of british butterflies but could be used for many other collecting pursuits.
All drawers have closely fitting glazed frame tops and are base lined with a layer of cork and internally lined with acid free white cartridge paper. The drawer bases are, as mentioned, made of cedar which is recognised as an insect repellant timber.

Original lock and key, glazed door and brass label plates to all drawers.
