Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French bar brooches typically feature horizontally aligned gemstones set in silver-topped gold settings. Designs from this era frequently feature intricate pierced scrollwork, millegrain edges, and central focal gemstones such as emeralds or sapphires.

Craftsmen commonly used yellow gold for the structural framework and pin mechanisms, combined with a thin top layer of silver to set diamonds and light-coloured gemstones. This technique prevented yellow gold reflections from discolouring clear stones.

Authentic French pieces feature specific state hallmarks stamped onto the metal, such as the eagle head for 18ct gold or the boar head for silver. Additionally, Victorian and Belle Epoque construction exhibits hand-cut stones and silver-topped gold fabrication rather than modern casting methods.

An antique brooch can be worn on the lapel of a tailored jacket, attached to a silk scarf, or pinned at the collar of a buttoned shirt. Alternatively, collectors display historical brooches in framed, velvet-lined shadow boxes when not being worn.

Emeralds are delicate gemstones that should never be cleaned using ultrasonic devices or harsh chemicals. Clean the metal gently using a soft, dry cloth, and store the piece separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent surface scratches.
