Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Serpentine furniture features a distinctive undulating double-curved front facade, a design popularized during the 18th and 19th centuries across France and Britain. Kingwood, a rich exotic timber prized for its dark violet-brown grain and contrast, was frequently employed by master cabinetmakers as a fine decorative veneer on these prominent storage pieces.

These chests were typically constructed with a solid hardwood or softwood frame, overlayed with cut kingwood veneers laid in decorative chevron or parquetry patterns. Drawers were joined using hand-cut dovetails, accompanied by cast brass escutcheons and drop handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-sawing on drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, genuine age-related oxidisation on the timber underside, and natural shrinkage cracks along secondary woods. Cast brass hardware will also show slight irregularities consistent with hand-finishing techniques.

A serpentine chest serves as a grounding focal point in contemporary spaces when paired with clean-lined contemporary artwork or modern lighting above. The rich grain of kingwood provides warm texture, anchoring minimal or neutral color schemes.

Preserve the finish by positioning the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber.
