Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chinoiserie mantel clock is a tabletop timepiece casing finished with lacquer or japanning and decorated with Asian-inspired motifs, such as figures, bridges, and landscapes, which became popular in European horology from the eighteenth century onwards.

These clocks typically feature a solid wood case covered in layers of black lacquer or dark japanned paint, hand-applied gilt ornamentation, a brass-framed glass bezel, and a mechanical clock movement.

Authentic pieces from this period display hand-painted decoration with minor signs of surface craquelure, mechanical winding arbors on the dial, cast brass bezels, and period-appropriate numerical typography.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, pairing it with complementary brass accents, framed artwork, or simple botanical arrangements to highlight its decorative finish.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, harsh chemical cleaners, or polished wax that can degrade the lacquer. Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp conditions.
