Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lyre clock is a Neoclassical timepiece characterized by a frame shaped like a lyre, an ancient stringed musical instrument. Originating in late 18th-century France during the Louis XVI period, these clocks often combine marble bodies with chased gilt bronze mounts and gridiron pendulums.

Neoclassical French clocks predominantly utilize carved marble, alabaster, or porcelain combined with mercury-gilded bronze, known as ormolu. The clock faces are typically painted enamel, occasionally bordered with faceted paste glass or rhinestones to reflect candlelight.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-chased brass or gilt bronze fittings with soft wear, crisp white enamel dials often signed by Parisian clockmakers, and heavy cast marble bases. The movements usually bear French maker stamps and counting wheels consistent with historic production techniques.

Position the timepiece centrally on a fireplace mantel, sideboard, or console table to create a focal point. Balance the elaborate ormolu detail by pairing it with minimalist modern artwork or clean-lined contemporary ceramics.

Clean the marble and metal components using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a camel-hair brush to remove dust. Avoid chemical polishes or water on fire-gilt ormolu, as moisture can break down the original gilding, and have internal mechanical movements serviced by a professional horologist.
