Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 17th and 18th centuries, the linen press was created specifically for storing household linens, sheets, and clothing. Constructed in two distinct sections, the upper cupboard typically contained sliding wooden trays or shelves, while the lower base featured drawers for additional storage.

Traditional linen presses from the 18th and 19th centuries were primarily crafted using solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers. Quality hallmarks include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, solid back panels, and hand-carved decorative mouldings.

Chippendale style furniture is characterised by formal symmetry, refined proportions, and detailed wood carving. Key identifiers include dentil or carved cornices, acanthus leaf or fretwork scrollwork on door panels, swan-neck or ogee bracket feet, and solid brass drop handles.

A substantial mahogany piece functions as a grounding focal point in a master bedroom, guest room, or wide hallway. Balance the visual weight of dark timber by pairing it with neutral walls, light-coloured linen textiles, and contemporary lighting.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or uneven fading.
