Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A historicist charger plate is a large decorative dish produced primarily during the 19th century, designed to emulate the artistic styles, motifs, and metalworking techniques of earlier periods such as the Renaissance or Baroque eras.

These platters were typically cast or struck in bronze or copper alloy to create detailed relief decoration before undergoing electroplating, a process where a thin layer of pure silver was deposited onto the surface using electrical currents.

Authentic pieces usually display natural surface wear where the underlying base metal shows through elevated relief points, alongside precise casting marks, period maker hallmarks, and age-appropriate tarnishing.

A decorative platter can be displayed upright on a plate stand atop a sideboard, positioned flat as a central coffee table tray, or mounted securely on a gallery wall to add texture and historical contrast.

Clean gently using a soft, lint-free cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding abrasive polishes that can wear away thin silver plating; light silver cream should only be applied sparingly to dark tarnish.
