Chinese Export Imari porcelain refers to ceramics produced in China during the 17th and 18th centuries, styled after Japanese Imari wares for the European market. It features a distinct colour palette primarily composed of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, often depicting botanical or landscape scenes.

Pieces were crafted from kaolin clay and petuntse to form hard-paste porcelain, fired at high temperatures. The blue decoration was painted in underglaze cobalt before the initial firing, after which iron-red pigments and enamels were applied over the glaze and fired a second time in a lower-temperature muffle kiln.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit minor pinholes or slight irregularities in the glaze, iron spots, and wear on the unglazed foot rim. The painting displays freehand brushwork rather than transfer printing, and the underside shows evidence of hand-shaping and age-appropriate surface wear.
