We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Turn-of-the-century classical bookends often feature motifs drawn from Greco-Roman art, such as cupids, putti, and garlands. Manufactured during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, these pieces combine functional weight with figurative sculpture inspired by traditional academic art.

These items were typically created using lost-wax or sand-casting techniques. Molten bronze was poured into detailed moulds, allowed to set, and then finished by hand with chasing and the application of a chemical patina to achieve a deep, dark brown tone.

Authentic period examples exhibit significant weight due to solid metal construction, crisp detail in the casting, natural wear along high points, and foundry stamps or makers marks cast into the base or rear panel.

Position them on a contemporary bookshelf, mantelpiece, or executive desk to create contrast against clean-lined furniture. They function as both structural support for literature and standalone sculptural accents within a space.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a natural bristle brush to clean recessed details. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chemical polishes, and water, applying a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the original patination.
