Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 19th century, French glassmakers produced small portable containers for liquid fragrance and scented oils, designed for dressing tables or personal carrying. Overlay glass, also known as flashed glass, involves fusing layers of contrasting coloured and clear glass before cutting through the outer layer to expose the clear glass beneath.

These items were primarily constructed from lead crystal or coloured glass combined with silver, gold, or silver-gilt collars and stoppers. The glass was often hand-cut, faceted, or decorated using overlay techniques, while silver fittings were stamped with regional assay hallmarks.

Authentic French examples typically feature official silver hallmarks, such as the Minerva head stamp, visible on the metal cap or collar. Additionally, original glass vessels display hand-cut facet edges, hand-ground stoppers, and light base wear consistent with age.

A decorative scent bottle can be placed on a mirrored vanity tray, styled on a bedroom dressing table, or displayed alongside small glassware on a bathroom shelf. Grouping several glass bottles of varying heights creates a focused visual arrangement in a dressing area.

Clean the glass exterior gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could harm the glass surface. Silver mounts should be polished sparingly with a specialised silver polishing cloth to preserve the finish without allowing residue to seep into the glass vessel.
