Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century as a Neoclassical reaction against the elaborate curves of Rococo. Cabinetry in this style features linear silhouettes, geometric symmetry, fluted tapered legs, and classical ornamental motifs such as ribbons, laurel wreaths, and rosettes.

High-end French vitrines were typically crafted using dense fine-grained woods such as mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood veneers over an oak frame. Decorative features relied heavily on hand-chased gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, clear bevelled or curved glass panes, mirror backing, and marble surfaces.

Authentic pieces often showcase hand-cut dovetail joints, mercury-gilded or finely cast bronze fittings with crisp detail, and period-accurate wood shrinkage or patina. High-status cabinetmakers occasionally stamped their names or hallmarks onto the back, top frame, or lock mechanisms.

A fine French vitrine serves as a focal point when placed against a minimalist or neutral wall, creating visual balance. Interior designers often use these glazed cabinets to curate modern ceramics, glass art, or sculptures alongside vintage volumes.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and fluctuating heat sources to prevent wood veneer from lifting or cracking. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted with a soft brush rather than cleaned with abrasive liquid polish, which can remove the original gilded finish.
