George III Mahogany “Dumfries House” Chest of Drawers, c.1770
George III period mahogany chest of drawers of the type associated with Dumfries House, dating to circa 1770.
Of good proportions, the chest is arranged as three short drawers over three long graduated drawers, fitted with brass swan-neck handles and raised on bold ogee bracket feet. The mahogany has a rich, warm colour and a well-developed patina. The drawers run smoothly and the piece retains a pair of keys.
In good condition. Some surface marks and wear to finish, good patina. Slight openings to either side. Some old repairs to feet. Very heavy and handsome 18th-century piece.
