We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese porcelain plaques became prominent during the late Qing Dynasty and Republic Period, evolving as flat ceramic panels painted with overglaze enamels. Artists adapted traditional scroll painting techniques onto durable porcelain tiles intended for display in wooden frames, furniture inserts, or table screens.

These pieces consist of a flat, hard-paste porcelain slab painted with polychrome overglaze enamels, which are fired in a kiln to fix the colours. The tiles are then mounted into carved dense hardwood frames, such as rosewood or Zitan, frequently fitted with cast brass hanging fixtures at the top.

Authentic period plaques show fine brushwork executed in vitreous overglaze enamels that display slight dimensional texture under angled light. Look for red iron-oxide seal marks, fine hair crackle in the glaze appropriate to age, and hand-carved joinery on the surrounding timber frame.

Hang plaques as a balanced symmetrical pair above a console table or sideboard to create a focal point. Their dark wood framing and detailed enamel decoration complement contemporary minimalism, eclectic gallery walls, and traditional formal dining rooms alike.

Dust the porcelain surface and wooden frame gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid chemical cleaners, solvents, or excess moisture, as these can damage the finish on the timber frame or loosen the mounting within the surround.
