Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cellarette is a timber cabinet or chest designed to store and transport wine or liquor bottles, originating in the eighteenth century and remaining popular into the early twentieth century. These pieces were frequently lined with metal to accommodate ice and fitted with exterior brass strapping for reinforced strength.

Traditional cellarettes are constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, bound with riveted brass straps. Functional features often include cast brass lion-mask ring handles and internal zinc or tin linings designed to resist liquid moisture.

Authentic pieces from this period exhibit natural oxidisation on the brass elements, structural stave or dovetail joinery, and period-appropriate hand finishing on cast brass handles rather than modern uniform stamping.

A cellarette can be repurposed as a planter for indoor foliage, positioned as an occasional side piece, or used to house modern barware in a living room or dining space. Placing it near natural light highlights the timber grain and metallic details.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish along the grain to preserve moisture. Avoid abrasive metal cleansers on the brass components to protect the original patination.
