~ French - Circa 1870 ~~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~A large and stunning antique French gilt bronze cartel wall clock. Formed of heavy, bold scroll work and featuring crowned dragons to each side with further creatures to the top. The scroll work is backed with red fabric to lighten the design. A well made and heavy clock in finely finished gilded bronze.The large dial is also gilt bronze with 12 individual enamel cartouches and its original beautifully cut and blued steel hands. The bezel is fitted with convex glass.The large square plated French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.
