Fine French Vernis Martin Vitrine Cabinet with Marble Top & Ormolu, C.1880

Description

An elegant French Vernis Martin vitrine cabinet dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880.

The cabinet retains its shaped marble top above a richly ornamented ormolu-mounted frieze. The glazed doors enclose glass shelving against a damask-lined interior, while the lower panels display charming hand-painted pastoral Vernis Martin scenes.

Raised on slender cabriole legs with gilt bronze mounts, this is a refined Louis XV revival piece of excellent decorative presence.
