Description:
This is a fine quality large antique English Victorian watercolour painting by David Cox Jnr., circa 1840, of a river scene and a castle in the distance, believed to be set within its original gilt frame, in excellent original condition. This watercolour painting, which is paper-backed on canvass for additional strength, is very well painted. It depicts a
... quintessential English river landscape scene, of a tranquil river meandering through a wooded landscape. There is a pebbled bank with two fishermen in a boat, casting off amongst the reeds. This tranquil study shows great detail and atmosphere, probably painted on a still afternoon day. We see muted greens and brown in the foliage to the right, which is reflected in the river. The distant shore shows cattle grazing before a castle set in woodlands. Obviously, painted by a very skilled hand and a scene one would never tire of viewing. The Victorian watercolour painting is signed “D. Cox Jnr” in bottom right corner. We believe this large watercolour sits within its original gilt frame, which is in excellent condition.
The watercolour painting would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the hallway, living room or bedroom. This is a well-balanced and restful scene, one of which the viewer would not tire. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is an attractive and colourful piece. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely picture.
