Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gemsbok and African game mounts gained popularity in Europe during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras through natural history collections and sporting expeditions. Preserved specimens were frequently displayed in country estates, private libraries, and natural history cabinets as educational items and decorative architectural focal points.

Traditional shoulder mounts utilize the original tanned animal hide and natural horns set over a internal form made from carved wood, plaster, or papier-mache, with modern examples using moulded polyurethane foam. Glass eyes are fitted to replicate the natural life appearance of the animal.

Authentic taxidermy displays natural fur texture, intact horn structure, and precise stitching along the seam line at the reverse. Inspect the mount for hide shrinkage around the eyes and muzzle, skin splitting, or evidence of historical insect activity.

Taxidermy mounts serve as prominent focal points when positioned above fireplaces, within dark wood paneled rooms, or alongside gallery walls. Pairing natural history items with structured modern furniture creates a tailored contrast within classic and rustic schemes.

Keep taxidermy specimens away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat sources to prevent hide cracking and fur fading. Lightly dust the fur following the natural lie of the coat using a soft dry brush and clean the horns with a damp cloth.
