Ww2 Ebel Raf Issue Pilots Watch a.m. 6b/159 5648/42 – Dated 1942

1920 - 1940
Description

WW2 Ebel RAF Issue Pilots Watch

A.M. 6B/159 5648/42 – Dated 1942

Offered for sale is this seldom-encountered all stainless steel version of the Ebel RAF issue pilots watch. Slightly larger than other examples at 32mm diameter (excluding the oversized crown), this watch is fully signed throughout and presented in excellent original, unrestored condition.

Recently fully serviced and in full working order, it retains:

• A clean and clearly legible original dial

• Deep blued original hands

• Fixed strap bars

• Correct large crown for gloved operation

• Matching case numbers

Many surviving examples were later redesignated with the “6B/234” back-up stores marking; however, this particular watch remains correctly marked 6B/159, which is especially desirable to collectors.

An excellent and honest wartime example, worthy of any serious military watch collection.

Price: £1,875.00

Inclusive of UK shipping.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The 6B/159 specification was created by the British Air Ministry during the Second World War for timepieces issued to Royal Air Force pilots and navigators. These watches were designed for high legibility and reliable timekeeping during flight operations.

Wartime specifications often utilized cases made from duralumin, alloy, or stainless steel due to resource restrictions. Dials featured light cream or white backgrounds with high-contrast black Arabic numerals and blued steel hands.

Authentic military timepieces carry official issue engravings on the exterior case back, such as the Air Ministry mark A.M., the reference code 6B/159, and a specific issue year. The dial markings and movement calibre should match wartime contractor records.

A vintage aviator wristwatch provides a functional aesthetic suitable for tailored or casual menswear. Combining the watch with leather jackets, knitwear, or linen shirts highlights its minimalist functional design.

Mechanical watches should be kept away from water, moisture, and magnetic fields. Servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years ensures the mechanical movement remains clean and correctly lubricated.
