Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Plique-a-jour is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied into open metal wirework cells without a backing, allowing light to pass through the material in a manner similar to stained glass windows. The technique gained significant prominence during the Art Nouveau movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly among Catalan and French jewellers.

Art Nouveau enamel brooches traditionally combine high-karat gold or platinum settings with vitreous glass enamel powders. Craftsmen frequently set small brilliant or rose-cut diamonds, pearls, and colored gemstones into the metal framework to accent the delicate enamel work.

Authentic pieces feature signature makers marks or hallmarks struck into the metal reverse, fine metal soldering joints, and fluid, nature-inspired linework. Plique-a-jour enamelling from this era exhibits subtle variations in translucency and delicate cell boundaries rather than thick or uneven modern synthetic resin fillings.

An antique brooch can be styled by securing it to the lapel of a tailored blazer, fastening a silk neck scarf, or positioning it near the collarline of a modern blouse. Alternatively, it may be pinned to a velvet ribbon to wear as a choker necklace.

Clean plique-a-jour enamel by gently wiping the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with warm water. Avoid chemical solvents, ultrasonic cleaners, extreme temperature changes, and steam cleaning, as these can fracture the glass enamel membranes.
