Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical proportions, refined curved forms, and decorative surface treatments. Painted finishes often incorporated neoclassical motifs, botanical garlands, line striping, and faux-marbling to imitate costlier materials or enhance light within interior spaces.

These chests were typically crafted from native softwoods such as pine or deal, or secondary hardwoods like birch, which provided a smooth surface for painting. Drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints, wood dustboards, and cast brass knobs or ring pulls, finished with hand-applied oil or tempera paints and protective varnish.

Authentic Regency painted pieces show natural age-related craquelure, subtle pigment oxidation, and uneven wear patterns around handles and edges. Construction indicators include hand-planed backboards, irregular hand-cut dovetails, and evidence of original painted layers beneath later restorations.

A painted bow-fronted chest functions as a focal point in hallways, bedrooms, or living spaces. Placing contemporary artwork above the piece or pairing it with simple modern ceramics creates a balanced visual contrast between historic decorative detail and modern minimalism.

Maintain painted surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Avoid water, commercial spray polishes, or solvent-based cleaners that can dissolve historic paint layers, and position the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and flaking.
