A large and highly decorative Mamluk-style enameled and gilded glass vase by Philippe-Joseph Brocard, produced in France in the late 19th century during the height of the Orientalist revival. Inspired by 14th–15th century Islamic glass from Egypt and Syria, Brocard’s workshop became renowned for museum-quality reinterpretations of historic techniques and motifs.
 
The vase features a flattened globular body with a tall cylindrical neck and two applied clear glass handles. The clear glass ground is richly decorated with polychrome enamels and extensive gold gilding, arranged in panels of scrolling vine work and geometric ornament. A prominent band of blue enamel with pseudo-Arabic calligraphy encircles the neck, referencing traditional Mamluk inscriptions.
