Large Murano Glass Aquarium Sculpture Fish Tank Sommerso Gino Cenedese Circa 1930''s
Description
An exceptional and Murano glass aquarium sculpture attributed to Alfredo Barbini for Cenedese, circa 1930. This impressive solid glass block is executed in the sommerso technique, suspending a richly detailed underwater scene within layers of crystal-clear glass, offering a fully three-dimensional view from every angle.
Encased within the sculpture are three finely modeled fish — two dark fish with striking gold and black striping positioned toward the upper and central areas, and a third predominantly white fish with warm reddish-brown markings and delicately lined fins in the lower corner. A translucent blue-white jellyfish floats gracefully nearby, enhancing the illusion of depth and motion.
Vibrant strands of green, red, black, and gold glass emulate seaweed and coral formations, anchored by a mottled green seabed layer. Small, intentionally placed air bubbles are dispersed
...throughout the glass, further reinforcing the impression of a living aquatic environment. The surface is highly polished with a flat base for stable display.
Substantial in scale and weight, this sculptural work functions equally as fine art and decorative object — a striking centerpiece for a modern, mid-century, or collectible glass interior.
