Sandbanks Antiques has dated this Chinese Porcelain Snuff Bottle to the 19th Century.
An expertly moulded porcelain snuff bottle in the form of Shoulao, the Star God of Longevity.
He holds a peach—the symbol of immortality—in his right hand and a gnarled wooden staff in his left.
The bottle is vibrantly decorated in famille rose over glaze enamels. He wears an iron-red outer robe accented with black floral motifs over a lower garment featuring a blue and white geometric diaper pattern. The hem is finished with traditional stylized wave and "rock of ages" motifs. The reverse shows the detailed folds of his robes, emphasizing the three-dimensional moulding.
Stopper:
The bottle is fitted with a decorative silver-toned metal filigree stopper inset with a turquoise-coloured cabochon.
Condition Note: The stopper assembly is currently damaged; the internal spoon/cork mechanism is broken, and the metal housing shows signs of wear and separation consistent with age(as seen in photos).
Dimensions & Condition:
Height: 8 cm (including stopper).
?Overall Condition: The porcelain body is in good antique condition.
The stopper requires repair or replacement of the cork/spoon.
?Base: Unglazed, slightly recessed biscuit foot.
