A handsome taxidermy waterbuck in wonderful antique condition. The head and neck are very well modelled, with a warm, rich brown to the coat that shows beautifully. It’s a noble, striking piece of taxidermy, executed with real skill. An eye-catching focal point, it would sit brilliantly in a large reception room, lodge, restaurant or pub, bringing character and presence to any interior.

The waterbuck is a large antelope native to sub-Saharan Africa, typically found in scrub and savanna habitats near rivers, lakes, and valley systems. Because they rely on both open grasslands and ready access to water, their distribution tends to be patchy, following these transitional ecotone areas.

In 19th and early 20th-century interiors, natural history collections and taxidermy mounts were displayed in country houses and libraries as educational specimens and decorative features.
