Small, Fusee, Drop-dial Wall Clock With A Chisel Bottom Mahogany Case. 8 Inch Dial. circa 1878.

A very pretty and rare clock with possibly a unique case, certainly one for the collector.
 
The 8 day duration, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement.
 
Behind an 8'' diameter, flat and painted iron dial with outer divided minute track and triangular hour markings, Roman hour numerals and the centre of the dial bearing the maker''s signature of ''E. LENTON. 9 High Street. CLAPHAM''. The blued steel and matching hands being of trefoil design. Behind a cast brass, hinged bezel with a sight ring and snapped-in bowed glass.
 
Contained in a well-figured mahogany case. The pegged on dial surround has a moulded edge and the drop trunk has a side access door and is divided from the chisel bottom by a 3 side, flat ebony strip moulding. The chisel bottom has a flat, locking and cockbeaded door with an inlaid ivorene key escutcheon.
