Meissen Porcelain Topographical Breakfast Cup and Saucer, C. 1860.

Description

A fine and large Meissen porcelain topographical breakfast cup and saucer, c. 1860. The breakfast cup, beautifully painted with a panel of figures walking in a Dresden street. The remainder of the cup, gilded with elaborate leaf scroll, on a underglaze, cobalt blue ground. Having an elaborate entwined branch scroll handle.

The saucer, painted with three panels containing flowers, and insects, on a cobalt blue ground.

Underglaze blue crossed swords mark to both pieces.

Height of cup – 7.5 cm, 3”.

Width (Handle to rim )- 14 cm, 5 1/2”.

Diameter of saucer – 18.5 cm, 7 1/4”.

Provenance – Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. Lot 775, Sothebys, 5th October, 2010.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
