Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gueridon is a small, circular occasional table supported by one or more columns or tripod legs, originating in 17th-century France. Traditionally used to hold candelabra or small decorative objects, it evolved during the Neoclassical and Empire periods into a sophisticated accent piece featuring marble tops and gilded metalwork.

Authentic French gueridons typically combine mercury-gilded cast bronze, known as ormolu, with high-grade imported or regional marbles such as Rouge Griotte, Statuary White, or Grey Breccia. Later 19th-century iterations may also incorporate brass mouldings, pierced galleries, and cast iron structural elements beneath gilding.

Authentic period ormolu exhibits fine hand-chasing, crisp tool marks on sculptural details like lion masks or paw feet, and a soft, matte-and-burnished finish. The underside often reveals heavy hand-cast bronze components with threaded steel rods or square-cut nuts rather than modern uniform machine screws.

Position the gueridon as an accent table alongside clean-lined contemporary sofas or armchairs to create visual contrast. The gilded frame and natural marble surface add warmth and metallic texture without overwhelming contemporary color palettes.

Dust gilt bronze gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, abrasives, or brass polishes which strip the original gilding. Clean marble tops using a pH-neutral cleaner designed for natural stone and wipe away spills immediately to prevent etching.
