Indian Steel Katar (push Dagger) With Pierced Steel Sheath, Rajasthan / South India, Late 18th–19th Century
£450 $607 €525
A good original example of an Indian steel katar (push dagger) with pierced steel sheath, dating from the late 18th to 19th century. The dagger is of robust Rajasthani form, with a broad leaf-shaped blade tapering to a reinforced point, intended for armour-piercing thrusts. The all-steel hilt is of traditional parallel bar construction, plain and workmanlike, reflecting its martial purpose rather than courtly display. The sheath, also of steel, is finely pierced and engraved with scrolling foliate and bird motifs in a South Indian idiom, forming an attractive and complete ensemble. A genuine antique Indian edged weapon, suitable for a serious arms or ethnographic collection.
Condition Report:
Blade showing pitting and surface corrosion consistent with age. Hilt structurally sound. Sheath complete with honest wear and minor distortion; no modern repairs observed.
