Peter Harris Clocks & Militaria has dated this Indian Steel Katar Dagger to the 18th Century.
The all-steel hilt is of traditional parallel bar construction, plain and workmanlike, reflecting its martial purpose rather than courtly display. The sheath, also of steel, is finely pierced and engraved with scrolling foliate and bird motifs in a South Indian idiom, forming an attractive and complete ensemble. A genuine antique Indian edged weapon, suitable for a serious arms or ethnographic collection.
Condition Report:
Blade showing pitting and surface corrosion consistent with age. Hilt structurally sound. Sheath complete with honest wear and minor distortion; no modern repairs observed.
