Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Sheffield plate sugar baskets were decorative table accessories designed to hold sugar or sweetmeats, constructed from fused silver and copper frames fitted with glass liners.

These items typically feature a fused silver-on-copper or sterling silver wirework frame paired with a removable cobalt blue or clear lead glass liner designed to protect the metal from corrosion.

Authentic Old Sheffield Plate items display a layered structure where silver is fused over copper, often revealing copper bleed through minor surface wear along edges, accompanied by hand-engraved monograms and period-appropriate wirework.

Place the basket as a decorative focal point on a dining table, sideboard top, or mantelpiece, or repurpose it to display small decorative items or confectionery.

Clean the glass liner separately in warm water using mild soap, and wipe the silver-plated frame gently with a specialized silver polishing cloth, avoiding harsh abrasives that could strip the plated layer.
