Martlesham Antiques has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The inscription on the lower part of the bust reads: LORD KITCHENER DIED JUNE 5TH 1916, this date refers to the sinking of HMS Hampshire by a German mine off the Orkney Islands while carrying Kitchener to Russia; there were only 12 survivors and Kitchener was not among them. The item is a commemorative piece, likely produced shortly after his death to memorialize the military leader.
