Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the mid-to-late 19th century, wirework jardinieres were crafted to display exotic plants and ferns in Victorian conservatories, glasshouses, and formal gardens. The intricate openwork design allowed maximum airflow and light to reach the foliage while providing a lightweight decorative framework.

19th-century plant stands were primarily constructed from hand-bent wrought iron or drawn steel wire. The frames were often riveted, crimped, or spot-welded and subsequently painted or galvanized to prevent rust and corrosion when exposed to moisture.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-crimped wire joints, subtle variations in wire symmetry, and heavier wrought iron structural uprights. They frequently exhibit naturally layered paint, surface oxidisation, and genuine weathering, unlike modern reproductions which use uniform machine welds and lightweight alloys.

Place the piece in a sunroom, bay window, or hallway filled with potted greenery, ferns, or cascading foliage to contrast structured metalwork with natural textures. Alternatively, display it in a garden setting or outdoor patio as an architectural focal point.

To preserve historic patination, clean gently with a soft brush and dry cloth to remove dirt. If keeping indoors, a light application of clear microcrystalline wax will protect against further oxidisation while preserving the existing aged paint surface.
