Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian gateleg table is a space-saving furniture design featuring one or two hinged drop flaps supported by swivelling leg frames. Produced during the reign of King Edward VII, these pieces typically exhibit lighter construction, refined turnings, and quality timber finishes compared to their earlier Victorian predecessors.

These tables are predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or walnut, featuring traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The gate mechanisms operate on wooden rule joints or brass hinges, supported by slender turned legs connected with box or H-stretchers for stability.

Authentic pieces display period-correct wear, smooth wood patination, and hand-fitted brass hinges beneath the leaves. Edwardian examples often feature finer leg turnings, lighter proportions, and precise cabinetmaker marks or stamps on the underside.

Position the table along an entry hallway with the leaves folded down to serve as a narrow console. Alternatively, open one leaf against a wall for a compact workstation, or open both leaves fully to create flexible dining for smaller spaces.

Dust the wood regularly with a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the natural grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the surface, and keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement.
