Latticinio, also known as filigrana glass, originated in Murano during the sixteenth century and experienced a prominent revival in the late nineteenth century led by glassworks such as Salviati. The technique involves fusing embedded threads of opaque white glass into clear glass to create intricate spiralling designs.

Artisans use soda-lime glass combined with opaque white glass canes made using tin oxide, known as lattimo. Additional decorative elements often incorporate metallic copper flakes to create aventurine glass streaks alongside coloured glass ribbons pulled and twisted during the hand-blowing process.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-blown characteristics, including a snapped or ground pontil mark on the base, slight structural variations, and fine, hand-twisted cane work. Period items generally display subtle contextual wear on the lower resting surface rather than pristine modern factory finishes.

These decorative items can be placed upright on a brass display stand on a sideboard top, mounted to a feature wall using glass plate hangers, or positioned within an illuminated display cabinet to highlight the embedded glass patterns.
