Late Victorian Silver-Plated Egg Coddler on Stand
A late Victorian silver-plated egg coddler or egg boiler, comprising a hemispherical bowl with removable pierced four-egg insert and domed cover, raised on an ornate tripod stand with scrolling supports and paw feet.
The piece was originally designed to be heated by a small spirit lamp positioned beneath the bowl (now absent), allowing eggs to be gently cooked or kept warm. The removable insert is fitted with four circular apertures to hold eggs upright.
Silver-plated throughout, with decorative pierced work to the bowl and a beaded rim. The stand is cast with stylised scrolling supports, likely inspired by classical or marine motifs.
