Cameo glass is a form of luxury art glass produced by fusing layered casing glasses of contrasting colours and carving or etching through the outer layers to reveal a raised design. Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, English makers like Thomas Webb adapted this technique for stylized Art Deco motifs during the 1920s.

Cameo glass is manufactured by gathering a base layer of clear or coloured glass and casing it with one or more thin layers of differently coloured glass. Once cooled, the design is applied using acid-etching, wheel-carving, or hand-engraving to strip away sections of the outer layer and leave a detailed relief pattern.

Authentic 1920s pieces typically feature crisp etched borders, hand-finished polished details, and distinctive ground textures such as frosted or textured finishes.
