Description

Superb Japanese Antique (1920s) Glass Painting, Beauty & Cat by famous artist Takabatake Kasho. Unframed (damaged in transit). 48cm high x 31.5cm wide.

Excellent condition

Born and raised in Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, Kasho Takabatake (1888-1966) moved to Kyoto in 1903 to study at the Kyoto City School of Arts and Crafts. In 1906, Kasho moved to Tokyo and became a pupil of Kogyo Terasaki, a prominent painter in the Nihonga tradition. He was one of the most popular magazine illustrators from the Taisho period through the early pre-war Showa period (1910s-1930s) and along with Yumeji Takehisa is considered a leading figure in the Taisho Roman art movement.
