Description

A Good Sized 18th Century Lignum Vitae Mortar and Pestle.

with a rounded rim pestle, over a collar and horizontal ringed moulding, the cylindrical body curving at the base to a concave socle, before the flat foot, with a rounded mould edge and straight sided plinth. The pestle with a button top, over the shank tapering outward and downward to the outward swept and horizontal ringed cap of the lobbed grinder.

The mortar height 9 inches, 23cm.

The mortar diameter 5 3/4 inches, 14.5cm.

The pestle 11 1/4 inches, 29cm long.

Date circa 1770.
