Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver inkstands gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, departing from conventional rectangular desktop trays. Silversmiths crafted functional writing accessories shaped as realistic animals, vehicles, and everyday objects using cast sterling silver.

These items were crafted from solid sterling silver, utilizing heavy casting techniques to achieve detailed anatomical features and structural weight. Internal ink reservoirs were typically fitted with glass liners or silver compartments to contain the ink.

Authentic British pieces bear official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, a makers mark, a town mark, and a specific date letter. London assay marks from 1903 display the leopards head mark alongside the designated date letter.

An antique silver inkstand can be positioned on an office desk, library table, or sideboard as a decorative focal point. Positioning the silver object on dark timber or leather surfaces creates contrast and highlights the metal finish.

Sterling silver requires periodic gentle wiping with a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to manage natural oxidisation. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or prolonged exposure to moisture that could strip the surface patina or damage jointed mechanisms.
