19th Century Chinese Fisherman with Trap Carved in Hardwood

This good quality Chinese hardwood carved figure depicts a fisherman bear footed and dressed in traditional robes. He has a long, flowing beard, and his hair is drawn up and tied on the top of his head. He has a very happy expression, showing finely inlaid carved bone teeth. He has been successful with his work. In one hand is a woven bamboo fish trap, and in the other a large fish that he has just removed from the trap. He stands on a naturalistic, pierced, rocky base, all carved from a single block of hardwood. This figure shows good detail and is in good condition with a few very minor age related shrinkage cracks. It has a well polished patina and a rich colour. Signed with Chinese characters on the underside.
