Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A trowel-shaped bookmark is a novelty page marker designed in the form of a miniature masonry tool, popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. These functional accessories feature a flat blade that slides onto book pages and a sculpted handle.

Edwardian silver bookmarks were predominantly made from sterling silver, stamped with British hallmark symbols indicating city, purity, and date. Some examples incorporated handles carved from mother-of-pearl, bone, or tortoiseshell alongside the silver blade.

Authentic pieces carry a full set of British hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a city assay office mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. The weight, hand-chased ornamentation, and crispness of the stampings also indicate original era production.

An antique silver bookmark can be displayed atop a stack of hardback books on a desk or bedside table, placed inside a glass cloche, or arranged alongside other small silver curiosities on a tray.

Gently clean sterling silver items using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polishing paste. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive pads, which can strip away original surface detail and natural patina in crevices.
